Captured during one of those ALU nights—when a ‘quick’ peer group discussion turned into a full-on strategy session about assignments, life and everything in between. We finally left campus under the stars with the hope that 11:59 deadlines won’t catch us!

During my 2019 summer internship, I worked with the Dian Fossey Gorilla fund in Musanze on rehabilitating communities dependent on poaching. This is a picture of me and a loud wooly friend (captured with great difficulty) at the base of Mt. Sabyinyo. From this farm, wool was produced and processed by women who turned it into beautiful and colorful clothes and toys.

From classrooms to community impact — these moments are a testament to the power of ALU friendships and purpose-driven connection. Grateful for the ALU family that’s stood with me in so many chapters: from supporting our Christmas Fundraiser and distribution for vulnerable children in Musanze, to showing up boldly during Pride Month, where we celebrated love, inclusion, and visibility — even with the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires joining us in solidarity. Here’s to a community that continues to empower, uplift, and inspire long after graduation. #ALUForLife #BoldTogether #ALUPride #CommunityInAction

The first video is of me receiving my degree in front of our president. It was one of the best days of my life; I can never forget it, and it opened up many doors during my career. The second video, of course, is of our president coming to congratulate us on the big achievement we’ve made, and finally, it’s me and my family, who supported me since day one, and truly, I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for them. I thank God for that.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first days at ALU, especially during the orientation period. It was a unique opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Meeting individuals from over half of the African countries under one roof and learning as much as I could about each of them was a golden opportunity I had never experienced before.

One of the most memorable moments of my time at ALU was seeing everyone I started the journey with graduate together, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Attending classes and graduation over Zoom during such uncertain times reminded me of the importance of being optimistic, supporting one another, and staying connected throughout that long journey.

Overall, my time at ALU was filled with both learning and joy. I especially appreciated the engaging experiences with classmates, facilitators, and staff particularly during the vibrant ALU Alive sessions.

Behind every product is a story of purpose, people, and perseverance.
These snapshots reflect not just Sheane Cosmetics, but a growing movement of young Africans committed to sustainable beauty, economic empowerment, and climate-conscious innovation.

From formulating our very first shea butter cream with borrowed tools to mentoring ALU interns in real-world entrepreneurship, this journey has been fueled by community, courage, and creativity.

Each face here tells a part of that story; students turned collaborators, ideas turned action, and raw materials turned impact. Together, we’re proving that meaningful change can start small… and still go far.

After nearly four years at The African Leadership University, I’m super excited to have graduated with a First Class Honours in International Business and Trade – Class of 2018.

@alueducation enabled me to grow and taught me the significance of knowing my value, pursuing my passion, and striving for excellence. Therefore, now is the time to do ‘HARD THINGS.’

I would like to thank my family, fellow graduates, facilitators, and managers for their continued support.

Cheers to this significant milestone!
